Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) is a relatively new option that allows qualifying Canadians to end their lives with the assistance of a physician or nurse practitioner. Recent amendments to the Criminal Code have expanded the eligibility criteria for MAiD. In this program, participants will learn about the MAiD process including:
– Eligibility criteria (including potential upcoming changes);
– Consent, capacity, and ethical dilemmas from the legal and medical points of view;
– Legal considerations and complications that may arise due to MAiD; and
– The process and experience of MAiD, including the referral process and how and where medically assisted death can take place.
